Corporate Gifting in Q1: January, February and March

Q1 has a reputation for being slow. Budgets are just approved, teams are finding their feet after the Christmas break and gifting tends to feel like something to think about later in the year.

But the enquiries we receive in January, February and March tell a different story. Q1 is when companies plan rebrands and want to mark them with a gift. It's when new hire cohorts start and onboarding programmes need to deliver. It's when events are booked for spring and the gifting brief follows shortly after. It's when charities and organisations running internal campaigns need something considered and quick.

The companies that use Q1 well aren't waiting for Q4 to think about gifting. They're building the infrastructure , the supplier relationships, the approved products, the briefing process , that makes Q4 feel manageable rather than chaotic.

Here's what's worth planning for between January and March.

January

New Year, New Starter Cohorts

January is one of the busiest months for new starters. Hiring that was paused over Christmas resumes, new financial year headcount is approved, and onboarding programmes suddenly need to scale. If your welcome gift process isn't ready in January, it tends to stay broken until someone complains.

A new starter gift doesn't need to be expensive to be effective. A well-curated box; a notebook, a good pen, a quality tea or coffee, a branded insert sets a tone before someone has had their first one-to-one. That first impression is worth getting right, and it's worth having a supplier who can turn proposals around in 48 hours when a January hire cohort arrives unexpectedly.

New Year Client Outreach

January is also a natural moment for client appreciation. A gift that arrives in the first week of the year, with a message that looks forward rather than back, stands out precisely because everyone else has stopped sending things. The December gifting window is crowded, January isn’t.

Rebrand and Campaign Launches

Q1 is when many companies launch rebrands, new campaigns or product lines that were planned in Q4. A branded gift box; custom packaging, campaign-specific inserts, products chosen to reflect the new identity is one of the most effective ways to bring an internal or external audience into a rebrand moment.

We worked with a marketing agency in Q1 on exactly this brief: a rebrand launch box for their client, containing branded stationery, a pen, socks and a fully printed gift box, sent to individual UK addresses.

The brief came in February with a May deadline, which felt comfortable until artwork approvals, supplier lead times and address collection were factored in. Three to four weeks from artwork sign-off is the realistic window for anything that involves custom printing.

If you have a launch planned for spring, the gifting brief should start now.

Valentine's Day, 14th February

Valentine's Day is underused in corporate gifting, which makes it an opportunity. A light-touch send to top clients, something warm and considered rather than overtly romantic , stands out precisely because no one else is doing it.

It works particularly well for relationship-driven businesses: agencies, consultancies, professional services firms where the personal connection is part of the value.

March

International Women's Day, 8th March

International Women's Day on 8th March has become a significant moment for companies with genuine commitments to gender equity. A gift that acknowledges the day, sent to female employees, clients or partners, works well when it feels authentic rather than performative.

The distinction is usually in the curation: a gift that reflects real thought about the recipient, rather than something pink and generic.

New Academic Year Gifting

For organisations in or adjacent to education - schools, trusts, training providers, universities -  March and April mark the end of one academic cycle and the beginning of planning for the next.

New teacher welcome gifts, staff recognition at the end of a term, gifts for newly qualified professionals joining a team: these are real briefs that arrive in Q1 and need a supplier who understands smaller quantities and careful curation.

We worked with a school trust in Q1 on a welcome gift for new teachers: a small brass compass keyring, a custom double-sided postcard and a plantable seed paper insert, sent in a letterbox-friendly kraft mailer to home addresses. Simple, considered and repeatable across multiple intakes throughout the year.

End of Q1, Client Recognition

March marks the end of Q1 for most businesses. If it's been a strong quarter, recognising the clients who contributed to that is worth doing now. A brief, specific gift with a message that references something real about the work you've done together is more likely to be remembered than a hamper sent to a list in December.

Specificity is what separates a gift from a dispatch.

Virtual and Event Gifting

Q1 is also when many companies run internal campaigns, virtual events and fundraising initiatives. We've worked on charity tea boxes, curated for a team to share during a pause in the working day, with a card game and printed collateral tied to the campaign, and watch party hampers for virtual client events, shipped to multiple office locations across the EU and APAC.

If you have an internal event, a virtual campaign or a team moment planned for Q1, a shared gift box can be one of the most effective ways to create a sense of occasion when people are in different locations.

A Note on Lead Times

Most branded gift projects - custom boxes, printed inserts, logo products - require three to four weeks from artwork approval to delivery. For January and February occasions, the brief should ideally land before Christmas. For March, January is your comfortable window.

The briefs that miss their moment are almost always the ones that started too late.
